Remote communication robot

A recent post about remote workHere we will introduce some of the ideas we have put together to enable staff members to easily communicate with each other even when they are far apart.

When introducing remote work, communication is bound to be an issue, so I did some research and discovered something interesting.

This is the telepresence robot, "kubi." It was developed by RevolveRobotics, a company in Silicon Valley, USA. The name comes from the Japanese word "neck."

The above items allow you to stay connected at all times using Zoom, making it possible to control the pan and tilt remotely.

Mobile robot ("double 3")https://www.brule.co.jp/robots/double3.shtml) also looked interesting, but our office isn't that big so there's no need to move around, so we decided to buy the kubi robot.

We have it set up in our office as shown in the photo. The sound quality of the tablet's microphone and speaker was poor, so we installed external ones. We also attached a wide-angle lens to the tablet's camera so that the inside of the office could be seen from the remote side.

The video and audio are always connected, so you can talk to them anytime. You can talk about work, or even just chat. It's the same as if you were working next to them. These staff (patent attorneys) in remote locations are responsible for managing internal and external tasks and administrative management, so they are often asked questions or confirmations by office staff or the representative. Therefore, we decided to introduce this type of communication tool.

The kubi-robot can be moved freely up, down, left and right from the remote side, so the staff in the remote location can look in the direction they want to see. It can even "bow" in a Japanese style...

I filmed the kubi-robot in motion. Sorry for the slight camera shake (I ended up waving my hand). *The video below has no sound.

This is the remote location. The kubi-robot in the office is remotely controlled by touch.
The tablet in the remote location constantly displays images from the office, so you can share what's happening in the office.

In this way, even if you are far away, you can talk to each other and check on each other just as if you were at the office, so you can easily check on small tasks. We believe that by realizing smooth communication, we can prevent inefficiencies, slow responses, and mistakes at work.
